Alright I see what you are talking about when I get a chance I'll take a look at that switch.

If I recall, I had one of my Quadsports running without having that Orange wire hooked up. When I initially bought one of them, it didn't even have the light switch on the thumb throttle housing and therefore no wires coming out of it. I'm pretty sure that wire was just taped off and dangling in there.

Are you trying to get your light re-wired and mounted on the bike, or are you trying to get it going without having it on at all? I'm running one with a light and one without so we can certainly use either of those for a reference if you're still having trouble.

This all seems odd. I simply disconnected the light on mine and it ran the same. I just taped off the individual wires so they couldn't contact each other and it was like it never even had a light.

I can't remember, have you tried putting your light back on and seeing if it runs?

Is there supposed to be a high/low swith on these? Mine is just a simple on or off job, but I've seen some that have a high/low.....

This is odd. Looking at that schematic I posted above, it looks like there were years that didn't have the on/off switch, so I guess it wouldn't be too weird if there were years without the high/low switch. Mine was an 86 and (should have) had both (my on/off switch was broken off).

So do you just have a simple kill switch on the left handlebar?

I've just got an on/off kill switch, and a on/off thumb switch for the light.

I wonder if there were some variations between the model years? I'll try to peak at some schematics later if I can ever finish all this homework....
