i found a Durablue axle on ebay. dont really have that kind of cash at the moment. think i might go with a stock 86 250r 24spline axle for $50 bucks. which according to a different thread should give me 1.5 inches on each side plus the new rims +6 +3. the only other thing i cant figure out is if a +4 +2 front offset is better than a +3 +2 offset. and what is bump steer? i am still foggy as to what that means. need lots of help with this rebuild, i was hit by a drunk driver New Years Eve. All that i have left of my original 230 is the motor. so i need access to lots of cheap but good parts( plastics too).plus i am working with 2 questionable frames. thanks for any help.

Default clutch barking

hey all,
A friend of mine has a 230 and the clutch is barking or making a similar sound. What does that mean. and what all is involved in rebuilding the clutch basket? i heard that you have to soak the disks in oil.

hey you can use an 85-86 or early 87 (24 spline) axle. never heard of a 10x6 front rim, id suggest sticking to the standard 5". get a 2+3 offset or maybe its 3+2, that will give you a free inch of width on each side, enough to notice but not enough to have to worry about bump steer.

very tough to say what's causing it. my clutch would bark like crazy and make other various scary sounds that shouldnt come from a clutch whenever i'd run amsoil in it. i switched to cheapo walmart sf grade oil and its perfect. although, thats just my situation, you may have a more serious mechanical issue.

UGH! I was supposed to meet with a guy up here at school today (which is 75 miles from home) to sell my sled, and guess what...I waited for 4 hours and the jerk never showed up!!! So glad I towed that thing up with my poor little Cavalier. What a waste.

Thumbs up

Yeah that axle should work perfect as long as its 24 spline. I think Malhombre has a Dura Blue like that one on his 230. Does anyone know if i have to change the valve springs when i install a 250s cam? or anything else that i need to change? thanks all for the help.

Shouldnt have too. Since the 250s cam is a stock lift profile, it should work ok with the stock springs without being to harsh on the valve train.

correct. and regarding your link bashr52, yes it should work. however, that guy's description is wrong. there is no way he can include 4 *OR* 5 lug hubs that will fit that axle. all 24 spline axles are 4 bolt, and all 26 spline axles are 5. therefore, if that axle actually is 24 spline, it should only fit 85-87.5, not 85-92 like he said.

not that it really matters haha
