Got a few questions about the lt230's. To make it easier, ill explain a few things before I ask the questions.

OK, a few weeks ago, I got my hands on 2 LT230's, dont know if they are 85 or 86 (shaft driven, so that cuts it down to only those 2 years.) from a trade. Both have electric start on them. Both also ran good and everything, but one of them smaked, bad. And seeing as the one that smoked had a better frame and front and read end, we moved the motor on the other 230 to that frame and everything looks and runs good. After we got the the good motor off of its frame, we found that it has been welded at a crack on one side and there was a crack on the other side. Now on to the questions.

First, would you guys say its bad pistons/rings thats making it smoke that bad? I had tryed to see if it was putting in to much gas, but it was still smoking even after running, so I have a good hunch that that is not the problem, but the piston/rings like i stated.

And the second question, as for the fram that has been welded back and also has a 2nd crack, if I can't find a 230 frame, is there any other quad frames that would work? I was looking at the pics of a 230 frame and a 250 frame and they both pretty much looked identical. Is that to say that they will/will not work?

And the last question. On that same quad with the bad frame, the foot brake is basically stuck. Would that mean the rear brake is siezed? I have yet to get far enough to take that part of the quad apart to see for myself.

I would take the frame to a weld shop and get it fixed. i m not sure if you could use an 230 "S" frame or not. Crack frames on a rigid rear end quad are problematic about cracking. i have an lt125 suzuki and i have welded it numerous times and i use it for pulling logs and clearing out trails.

so i just got my hands on some money and was going to buy a newer quad, but i decided against it do to the fact my i have a kid on the way now. so im still going to spend about five hundred bucks and put it into my 230 and hold on to it for a little while longer. I would like to get an exhaust, new front tires, swingarm skid plate and i need a carb bad. Also im not sure if i should get a piston kit. Everyother time i go riding i have to put oil in it. Im pretty sure its not leaking everywhere so im thinking im just burning alot of it. Any advice on what items i should get or input about my burning oil issue would really be appreciated.

I would personally get at least new rings and get new valves and seals. And check every where on the engine for leaks. as for front tires i would recommend rockymountain.com and get a pair of Kenda Parker DTs. they are a great tire. i just got a set of them and for the money theyre great and under $100 a pair.

i appreciate the offer on the carb, but i was looking for more performance. i've heard of mukuni carbs but i dont know much about them or carbs in general. I keep hearing people say that if i start putting exhaust and intakes that i have to have my carb jetted? whats jetting? im stumped
