The guy said the cam should have a short duration and little if any overlap

hmm, never thought of that. there is an exhaust on denniskirk.com for a 230s, it says you need to buy a Moose stage 1 jet kit. do you think that its reqired? here is the link, it says that in one of the customer reviews.

I've had nothing but problems with my 28mm. The aluminum slide vibrates against the idle speed screw and forms a hole in the soft AL, making it impossible to adjust the idle speed. That and I've never gotten the mixture 100% right. I've gone as far as modifying the slide cutout with a dremel! I'm thinking the AL slide wears and leaks air around it. Yeah, the extra 2mm adds a little power with a good filter n airbox lid removal, but not sure its worth the headache.

The jet kit, probably. Not a fan of megaphones though. Somebody, somewhere online said to show him ONE dragbike/car or serious racer with a megaphone. I thought about that and couldn't think of any... they all straight, open exhausts. No megaphones. So, what you basically want is a pipe of constant diameter and that diameter and length tuned to where you want your power in the rpm curve. Big and short for high rpm power, small and long for lowend. Once you get the pipe where you want, drill some holes, wrap in fiberglass and incase it in a bigger pipe.

Here's what I did:

Wow, and just when you think you have enough beef on there lol. Probably shoulda welded a plate of new metal over the oval hole and redrilled a perfect hole.

sweet! i wondered what the rpm's might be. gotta be close to floating the valves at that speed.

anyone try hooking up a tach to their motor?

You have the upgraded valve springs right? I have no idea what these engines are capable of, but I'm thinking the rod is the weak link:

Randy, i recognize the steel wool and fiberglass insulation, but what is the white stuff you wrapped your pipe with in between... I need to replace all the stuffing crap in my exhaust as it was full of oil and filth from a previous owner running it with worn out rings for a long time.

thanks

That's fiberglass too, just thicker and not pink. Fiberglass mat its called. I had some laying around from a fiberglass repair job. The steel wool is supposed to stop the fiberglass from being blown out. I don't know... someone said to do that. Ironically, the wool will burn before the fiberglass lol

The sound is deep not "tinny" like the megaphone muffler in the 1st pic. I think that is due to the thicker metal in the driveshaft compared to the muffler. As long as I keep the rpms down, its actually pretty quiet. All that changes when I open it up though. Still wouldn't describe it as loud, but it ain't quiet either. If I could change anything about it, I would make the driveshaft a larger diameter. That would make it deeper and quieter farther up the rpm band.... and of course, let me pack more fiberglass in it.

ic. I had just pulled out the old fiberglass and put in some fresh insulation i had laying around, but its still pretty loud. I was lookin for a way to quiet it down a bit more. The local cop does drive around town from time to time, and in order for me to get out of town to ride to the farm or do any real riding i have to go through part of town. Its a very small town, and im a local so i could probably talk my way out of a ticket, but i would like to just avoid a situation where i would have to do that lol. any ideas to quiet her down short of putting on a different exhaust? what kind of materials can i pack in there and not hurt performance?
