VALVE ADJUSTMENT ??
#1
I HAVE AN 05 EIGER AND HAVE HEARD ALOT ABOUT VALVE ADJUSTMENT. I HAVE 900 MILES AND RUNS GREAT EVEN AFTER TWO ROLLS. I HAVE NEVER HAD THE VALVES ADJUSTED, WHY SHOULD I, AND WHAT HAPPENS IF THEY NEED ADJUSTING AND I DONT DO IT. IS THERE SIGHNS OR SOUNDS THAT THEY NEED ADJUSTING.

I have a 03 z400 and in my service manual it says to readjust the valves after 1 month and then every 6 month there after
if you dont as the valves wear you lose clearance on the cams. when you lose all the clearance the valves might not close all the way
because its hitting the cam. and if you dont have them adjusted you can wear the cam and lose power
and sometimes they get to much clearance and your valve will clatter and then no power
its good to have them checked so it doesnt cost so much later to fix. I had mine adjusted once after I did my motor and messed up
the top end over new years, when we pulled it apart I found my valves messed up. some were to loose and some to tight
so now I have the added expense of replacing valves instead of just a timing chain
so have them checked and be on the safe side

I have an '05 Eiger with 1150 miles and just got a valve adjustment, i could feel a real power gain once I got it back from the dealership, I did not realize the power that I had lost. I started to hear a chatter when I would rev it up.

I have the factory service manual, and did not want to try it. I don't know much about engines and taking them apart, only the basics. You can get a manual for about $50 at the dealer or pay them the $200 to do it, they should also do a tune up and carb adjustment, change the oil, plug and check all of the nuts and bolts so that they are tight. The dealer will also charge you for parts but that is just for the oil, filter and plug. Hope that this helps.

I AM JUST BEING SO STAND OFFISH ABOUT IT BECAUSE MY EIGER RUNS SO GOOD. PURS LIKE A KITTEN, AND HAVE ALWAYS FOLLOWED THE TERM (IF IT AINT BROKE DONT FIX IT). I JUST DONT WANT TO TAKE IT IN AND GET IT BACK RUNNING LIKE CRAP. HAS ANYONE HAD THIS HAPPEN BEFORE? AND THEY SAY YOU SHOULD HAVE IT DONE EVERY SIX MONTHS THAT COULD GET EXPENSIVE. ANY ADVICE?
