I have a 1991 LT250 (quadracer 250) after my dad bought it he seemed to lose interest in rideing so basicly it sat in a shed since 1992, so this summer we got back into rideing and we went to get it. After putting in new gas (20:1) and a new spark plug it started and runs just fine the only problem is that it won't idle, so what I want to know is how to fix the idle, my friend said it mite be in the carb but I've already tried adding carb treatment to the fuel and it hasn't seemed to get any better, so what could be the matter with it? Also my dad wasn't sure of the gas ratio? Does that sound right?

20:1 is stock mixture for it, since its been sitting for so long id take the carb off and clean it out, make sure the floats arent sticking and clean out the needle vavle and all that. every one that i know including my self mix at 32:1. It runs the bike alittle bit leaner so the plug wont foul as easy and better overall power. make sure the engine is warmed up before you start making changes on the carb play with the idle and mixture screw

Actually the fuel mixture is richer with less oil when you run higher ratios. Clean the carb out. Let it soak for a few days in cleaner and blow it out with an air gun. Make sure your jets are out of the carb when you clean it and inspect each jet, especially the pilot jet.

PS. It is also possible that your main seals are leaking due to the fact that they could be dried out from sitting for 13 years.

Oil is denser then fuel! Less oil in the fuel makes the bike run richer as it lets more mixture through the jets! Less oil is a "Leaner" ratio of fuel to oil but it has the opposite effect on the jetting of the bike. Therefore, less oil makes the bike run richer or just the opposite of what you said.
A good rule of thumb is 125's should run 32:1, 250s 40:1 and 500's 50:1. I raced all size bikes for years and followed that rule of thumb and NEVER had a problem with bearings, rings and/or pistons.
