lt250r popping
#1
I have an 88 lt 250r, unfortunately got on it only once the whole summer, think ill take the winter to get it tweaked a bit.
3 issues right now.
- First, when i was out riding, was on an mx track in indiana, romping on it pretty hard, when pegged out in 3rd or 4th at high rpm, would pop, almost like a puff of air sound.
Not sure if I should be looking for an airleak somewhere, or if Im backfiring out the carb maybe.
- Second, that day, was having issues getting it to kickstart when hot. Was able to roll start it and get it to fire , but kind of a hassle, Can you adjust the timing for an easier start? what causes hot start problems?
- Third, now that its been sitting for a while, when i go to start it, it will fire up, run for a few minutes, then chokes out.
Fuel is good, filter clean, spark plu filthy, but still produces a small spark. WHere do I start?
I plan on pulling the engine out, and letting Eric Gorr work on it, Ive heard good things, if anyone has any feedback. Just was kinda pissed last year, I didnt stomp on my buddies 400 ex like I had hoped too.
thanks

well for your first problem it just sounds like a simple carb adjustment.try adjusting it.also try a sifferent gas/oil mixture.for your second problem i have no clue....infact mine is compleatly the opposite.for your third problem try checking if the choke is broken or maybe stuck.if not that it sound electricle....i kinda had the same problem.what i did was took the spark wire of of the plug.then i took the wire out of the spark plug cap....make sure theres a good conection.mine had a little screw that went into the middle of the wire.hope it works out for you.
best of luck!
