Polaris owner Looking close at 05 Vinson 500 (chime in and change me)

The vinson is a great machine with the 5 speed it feels very sporty. Mine hits the rev limiter at 62, first gear can make the front end feel light, especially when going uphill. Low range gives enough low end to pull anything, very cheap front plastic so get a bumper, i have the suzuki genuine products and it is very sturdy.

I have an 05 Vinny Auto and love it. I've had it for 5 mos and have put app. 320 mi. on it. It is extremely quick/powerful and fun to ride. I personally don't want independent suspension as the Vinny allows me to whip the back end around and fool around w/ it. I was looking at getting a Polaris but was steered away from some Polaris owners citing reliability issues. My only complaint w/ the Vinny is the front bumper. Why they put a weak front bumper is beside me. I got a Warn front bumper off of Ebay for $128. It looks a lot better w/ the Warn bumper and I can promise nothing will hurt this bumper.
I've heard concerns about the auto belt slipping but I haven't had that happen to me once. I've ridden in plenty of water too.
I would highly recommend a Vinny to anyone. It's nimble and the best deal out there on a 500. Honda's way slower and $1000 more.
Good luck!

Suzuki makes probably the best belt system out their, i personally have never seen a Suzuki auto ever have any troubles with the belt, water, mud, or anything, i had a eiger and put over 6500 miles on it,hard miles i might add, and their wasn't a hint of the belt needed to be replaced when i traded it off..i ride with a guy and his wife combine weight of about 500+lbs.,they got stuck going up this little incline because he should of been in low gear if you know what i mean!! he set their and gave that Vinson gas for i know 30 seconds and the bike wasn't even moving, i told him to back down and put it in low, about 30 minutes later my buddy wanted to race that Vinson on his 650 v-twin kawi, because i was telling him how fast that Vinson was, i said i don't know now i thing the belt is messed up, he wanted me to ride the Vinson because him and i are about the same weight,so we raced and that belt worked flawlessly and came close to out running the 650, 3 different times,, all the power anybody ever needs, good bike, hard on brake pads thought.. wayout, out...............

I have owned 2 Vinsons. The first one I wrecked while bear hunting year before last. I made the mistake of trying yamaha. Bought a '04 Kodiak 450...the whole time i was riding it ...i kept thinking...how do i get rid of this and find a Vinson? I looked and looked for a used Vinson all over the northwest...none. i finally sold the yamaha and found an '04 camo Vinson, winch and bars. only 32 miles on it. Sweet. In my opinion the Vinson is the best all around machine available for the money. It will go everywhere that my '05 K.Q. will go. the ride is sweet. It actually has a lower seat feel on it than the King Quad, which is more comfortable. Get the Vinson....your wife will love you for it. My wife loves this thing...yours will too.

hey dont let the polaris fool you into thinking their the best, adn kawi and zuks are good atv's. their definatly better than any polaris . I have praire 650 , and 05 brute force and both have different ride due to rear susp.set up . if you want a diff lock on the 500 class bikes look at the yami kodiak also . I personally like the solid rear axil , but the brute is a missle and real real big on power .

I've got an 03 Vinson 5 speed and it has been great, the only repairs have been brake pads. It has 3200 miles on it . I use it for trail riding, plowing snow, working the garden, and spraying. Brake pads seem to wear out fast so keep an eye on them so you don't wreck your rotors. I agree with the other fellow that a diff locker is needed. In comparison to the Cat 500 it may have the locker, but the handling (steering) isn't as good as the Vinson, and you can't powerslide on the Cat like you can on the Vinson due to the IRS and extra weight, but the Cat rides smoother and has more ground clearance. So it boils down to the type of riding you like to do, take 'em for test rides and decide 'cause you can't go wrong with either the Vinson or the Cat in either 5speed or belt models. Also the Cat has better racks than the Vinson, both get great gas mileage. Regarding whether 5speed or belt, both are very reliable, if you want a sportier feel, especially if your a motorcyclist, you'll like the feel of the 5 speed better. My personal feeling is if you do alot of heavy work, the manual is better than belt. I do alot of riding in the back country and I just feel more confident with a manual than a belt, but that is just my opinion. I driven both and both feel good and friends who have the belt version have never blown a belt. For about the same price you can get a Kawasaki 650 which I think would be worth a test ride for you also, but their belt drive needs alittle more maintenance than the Suzuki and Cat versions.
