A metal piece of the crankcase set has broken off just below the shifter. Does anybody know if a piece can be welded back on or do I need a whole new crankcase. New from the dealer I think that they are over $500 just for the crankcase. Also, I've never put on a new crankcase but I assume the whole engine must be disassembled? Is there any place to find a used crankcase?

Damn dude that sucks... It happend to me as well, i had insurance on it , so i just added a couple dents and dings to totall it out and got a new quad. But if i were you , try and have some one weld it. Just pull you motor out wich should ony take 3 hours for the first timer, 1 hour if your good. But once its off take it some where and i am sure some one will be able to weld it.
