lt450r

Stock LTR-450 makes 31 hp.... you can pick up an additional 9 hp from removing the spark arrestor, the air box lid and installing a Z-Speed
That is a 39% hp increase....

I saw an interview with doug gust and jeramiah jones on tv last week, and they both said that they liked the stock lt450r better than their built up 400's that the raced last season. If you have any idea of how much money it took to build those 400's to make them competetive with the honda and yamaha 450's, and how good those 400's actually were, then that should give you some idea of how good the lt450r really is. I mean the 400's they rode last year would smoke almost any stock or mildly built up 450. I don't have personal experience with the lt450r, but as much as I hate to say it (being a yamaha guy) I have a feeling that the lt450r's will be ruling the local tracks for some time to come. I don't know how good they will be for trail riding, because they are purpose built for racing, and untill I ride one on the trails to see if it does better than mine, i'll stick with my Rappy 700.

9hp??? Thats a monsterous increase for a quad without doing engine mods. Not saying your not telling the truth, but I'd have to see Dyno Charts to believe it.

Also, this thing doesnt look as bad in person as it does in pictures. I kinda like the look of it myself.

mmz400- way to give props to your bro's quad. It is in TX or TN???... or do you even know...... The only YFZ450 I've lost to so far on my LTR450 was an '05 with 6k in motor work from ESR...
Looks don't mean anything in this market once your racing.... anyone remember the quadzilla's..... still some of the fastest quads up a sand hill.
loose2121- back to your original question. the LTR450 is, out of the box race quad, the best deal at this time at a local dealer. Sure you can get a YFZ450 or 450R(Honda) to be faster then the next the depending on how much $$$ you're ready to drop. But for the meantime the LTR450 is the quad of choice by people that do not use past quads in their decisioning when buying a new quad. I have had alot of my friends that race in the open-expert classes on both YFZ's and R's (Honda) asking me about it.
Sparky8370 - you called it with mmz.
GITRDUN - I bought the cherrybomb and uncorked the stock pipe... all I can say is 'wow'. Sounds like my Z400 Yoshi pipe with no packing but a lower tone and no snap off the throttle. Look at the new pipe Yoshi is coming out with. Titanium header with carbon silencer - somewhere around $850 though..... so far Yoshi doesn't have a part number listed to it as of yet but my sponsor has a contact at Yoshi that said it's around this price.

I took the spark arrestor out and removed the lid. It woke this thing up considerably. I dont remember seeing that much of an improvement when doing the same to a stock YFZ, but the YFZ at stock didnt seem as corked up as the R450. By just a seat of the pants feel i would say its definately right up there with the YFZ and 450R now. In pure stock form its not impressive at all but it has more mid range power now and will rev out much better. Its also is running a tad bit lean now , i dont have the Yoshi plug so ill put the lid back on untill i get the plug.
It wouldnt even touch my YFZ before , lost by about 1 or 2 bike lengths in a short drag every time. But my YFZ has a few mods so thats not a fair comparison. I think it might be a closer match now. Wont know untill a buddy comes over to pilot the YFZ.

Oh yeah????!!!!! WELL I INSTALLED AN F-16 FIGHTER JET ENGINE ON MY KX-80 USING AN ELABORATE SYSTEM OF ROPES AND PULLEYS AND GOOD OLE DUCT TAPE. WITH A WEIGHT RATIO OF30,000 LBS OF THRUST/175LB BIKE I CAN ACCELERATE FROM 0 TO MACH 1.7 IN ABOUT 4 SECONDS,AND THATS WITH THE F*&$ING SPARK ARRESTOR IN! LETS SEE ANY YFZ OR LTR450 TOUCH ME AT THE DUNES,OR ANYWHERE!!!
