I am thinking about purchasing a Z400 the only thing that is wrong with it is the crank case is busted from where the chain broke. How much would it cost for a new crank case and is this a serious problem that could effect the motor over time?

It would make a great quad, I would research how much it was going to cost to get it fixed, probably too much.

 

Sometimes they can weld the case or maybe even JB weld would hold.

 

yea he said he tried jb weld and that didnt work. ive been trying to find crank cases but i cant find any of them.

 

I had a friend bust his the same way and he bought a new one. He got it a dealer cost but you can search for one in the many atv stores online. You can even look at the price of adding a 440 kit while you have the jug off. If you can get the Z pretty cheap, I would do it no question. Of course if you are not mechanically inclined, it will cost you a lot more having all of the work done. Make sure the guy didn't keep trying to ride it after the case broke. He may have ruined the head and piston if he did. A new crank case will cost around $575.

 

yea i have a friend who races and he gets all of his parts at cost. he is supposed to be checking on how much he can get the crank case for. i kno he rode it a little after it was busted but he had jb weld on it and it didnt work so it hasnt been rode since.
