Default Transmission grinding 2nd & 5th gear

I've got an LT 185 that grinds 2nd and 5th gear. Both gears will engage and pull if you don't give much throttle. I've pulled the transmission apart, all the gears are fine and no problems found. Upon reassembly, same problem. It seems to me that the gears are not moving into fully engaged position. Anyone have any ideas?

To my recollection the shifting forks can really be bent as they are a cast fork. I do agree however that it seems as though the gears are either over or under shifting. Does anyone know if 2nd and 5th are on the same shaft?
