Default Z-400 float bowl screws

The best way is to drill the heads off and then you can just unscrew the rest by hand after you take the bowl off. Works great, I have done it a ton of times on many carbs. The only other thing that has worked well for me is find a pair of vise-grips that are small enough to get a good grip on the head and still have room to turn a little and work them loose this way. But, even though you don't want to, the drill is probably your best bet. Good luck!

ditto that

If I had a dollar for every bolt ive stripped on a carb, Id be rich. Try vice grips again, and even go out and buy the slender nose vice grips. Those work the best. You can also get a steel saw blade and make a slot in the head of a bolt to use a large flathead driver but vice grips are the best

I just had to do this on a Polaris on Friday. I used the Vice grips you get a Lowes, Cobalt I think. They look like the regular vise grips, with the 1/2" wide head and all, but the very end is flat(about 1/4-3/8" thick) and has the knurled ends. The knurled grabbed the head better. Get a REAL solid clamp first, the turn. In my case you just need to crack it loose. On one screw there wasn't much room and the screw just cracked once. But that was enough to get in with the phillips. Before totally stripping out the phillips I grabbed the phillips.

good Luck,
Rob
