I have a 05 King Quad and like it I noticed the other day it sounds like it is pinging at wide open throttle. I have had the valves adjusted at the dealer always ran supper unleaded and even tried putting a octane booster in the gas to see if it would help and it may have a little. I suppose it could be something else and not pinging any help would be nice. I really notice the pinging noise when I took it to the sand .

 

Any reason you are running Super? I run Reg. and have noticed a small / slight ping on idle only but seems normal as my cousins does the same thing.

 

does it make the noise when you give it full throttle in neutral AND in gear? and by the way regular unleaded is the best gas to use. the super doesnt really make it "super". im not saying thats why you use it, jsut a fun fact. not trying to be a smartazz.

 

I have the same "pinging". I think it is just the valve design. I kinda worried about it at first, checked valve adjustment, run 91 octane. 1000 miles and still runs great. I guess for the short amount of time I run high speeds I won't be too worried about it. I've heard the valve noise in other quads when under load. Not limited to the king.

 

thanks for the help. I will probably still run supper even if it does not make it supper just because. I do thank you all for responding. I will be out hunting bears this week in Oregon and plan on making a stop at the sand maybe I will buy a quad made for the sand soon but untill then I will have to have fun with the King or the Vinson, still fun.

 

I would get that checked out immediatly. I got a 05 king and it started meking a pinging noise also. I just ignored it and kept riding it which led to a $2000 parts bill.
