timing chain
#1
i own a 2003 400 ltz susuki quad and after about a year my timing chain was rattling. i put in a new 1 and now every 300-500 miles the chain starts rattling again. i've had the entire engine redone[3000.00$] except for the over head cams, but the shop that did it for me said they were fine. they also said the cam chain guides were fine also. also my cam chain adjuster has been replaced with a new 1 in case that was the problem. my question is : has any1 had this problem and what did they do to fix it?????? or is it just some kind of lemon problem with this quad????

stock chains stretch faster. DID makes a nice heavy duty cam chain
and I found out if you replace the chain you should replace the guides too
they might not be worn where the chain hits but they do wear from the tensioner

Bent or worn cam gears? Do you pull start this wheeler or ride down hill off the throttle a lot ?
This is hard on the timing chain.
My buddie did this alot and it cost him $600.00 to replace the timing chain and guides to fix it because it quit running.
Just curious.

my z WAS really tricked out and yes the revs were way up, but after i blew it up good i turned everything back to stock. i didn't put a heavy duty timing chain in it because i didn't even know there was 1. Do these heavy duty chains last a lot longer? and how much more expensive are they? ie, does cost outway the benefits??? now my daughter drives it so it hasn't even seen high speed or been abused since she started riding it. i'm starting to believe this is a lemon thing with these quads. hopefully it won't continue with the 450!
