Default Fastest stock ATV ever produced?

man i lived in new jersey last year. I built a little jump in the back yard and got three tickets. one was for having an "illigal atv track". The only places we could ride were the state parks. It sucked! Now that i moved to new york i can ride all over the place all the time.

I made my wife's Outty 400 and my Banshee street legal so that we could ride in the Sedona AZ area, but we could technically ride anywhere we wanted including freeways, as they are now licensed as motorcycles. But, even though I have ridden street bikes for years all over California, I don't feel as comfortable riding a quad on the street except for short distances to get to a trail.

If we are not careful, the whole nation will end up like New Jersey. Make sure you are part of an orgianization like ASA, etc. Even if you do nothing but join. That is our only chance for surviving the insane legislation and court rulings coming down against this great family sport.

I been riding a long time, I haven't seen a stock atv do over 75 yet. My ds would do 75 mph on the dot when it was new, My predator would do 74.9 My buddy's 500 zilla would almost stay with them on top end. Iwould love to have a zilla but nobody wants to sell them when they get one.

How come my 250cc Polaris Trailboss (2-stroke) is equal in speed to my 250cc Honda Fourtrax (4-stroke)???

I'm pretty sure 900cc's are not needed. I dont know how the Raptor 700 fares against the LT500, but I'm sure that with more sophisticated 4-stroke technology, we'll eventually have a 4-stroke with equal displacement to a 2-stroke have equal power. Actually, I think this is an impossiblity, I think that 4-stroke tech is approaching that point, but will never reach it.

Wanna see something rip? Check out the Ski-Doo 1000 MACH Z (it's a TRIPLE 2-stroke).

Yeah, your right. The old 250 2 strokes are still dang fast and the zilla is still the king of speed. It has just taken 4 stroke technology this long to catch up. Well, at least narrow the gap.

I dont think they will ever make or even allow a special class of atv's for people 21+ that will do over 75. It would be kinda pointless. I dont think top speed is what sells an atv. People dont just go out and buy an atv because it has the fastest top speed. But then again, I guess some people do...

A friend of mine is doing that. He's buying the Raptor 700 so he'll have the biggest sport quad around so he can beat everyone!

I have an LTR450 and a Z434(athena) and I have to admit that the Raptor 700r was the only 'stock' quads at the drag strip this past weekend at Pismo Beach that consitantly beat my two quads. I was suprised that I was able to beat my friend on his 06 YFZ450 4 out of 5 times... So he decided to go back to camp and get his Trinity/Cheetah banshee to show us up.

If your friend wants to buy fast then the Raptor 700r is the way to go. I said fast though... I still don't think it's the quickest or best overall stock quad available on the market, but I will give it it's due... it is fast....

How do you compare the "Fastest" stock quad??? Who Cares about the fastest in top speed. Its all about how fast you get there. as far as the fastest accelerating stock quad I must tell this in a flat 1/4 mile race A stock Ltz400 wil smoke an LT500r . and a 250r. STOCK OF COURSE

I guess the "fastest" would be a combination of acceleration and top end. I mean, you could take a 400ex and give it a 10 tooth front sprocket instead of a 15 tooth and it will have mad acceleration. It would be able to beat a Z400 in acceleration, but will top out pretty quickly and the Z400 will beat it in top end for sure. Only problem though with a 10 tooth front sprocket is that you would have to shift through gears much more which would take time. The Z400 would probably be able to stay ahead once it hits 2nd gear. It can get quite complicating sometimes...

Gearing can change everything, except for maybe the fact that having the absolute top speed just isnt all that much a factor to the majority of those who ride atv's.

I found it interesting that you used gear changes for acceleration in your example since that is something that many have done in the past for making their machine more usable for trail riding or xc racing etc., and this is what is meant by being fast in the first place (acceleration, not top speed).

Call it whatever you like but everyone needs to agree that except for those rare top speed contests held on dried up lake beds in the desert etc the "fast" that wins races is acceleration and this is even more true when your talking about an atv that is being tested on an mx or xc course where it will be accelerating (and also decelerating) all the time.
