I know there's a lot of posts about this already, but most are pretty old. I have an 05 Z400 thats completely stock and a kid i know has a 400ex with full white bro's pipe and a k&n airfilter. His bike is probably a 99 or 2000 but im not sure. Which bike should be faster, and by how much?

 

the 05 z should win, i would have to say it will be close though

 

you should have no problems beating him in a race. but it might be close. and it all depends on the riders ability to handle the quad

 

the older 400ex was not that fast to begin with. and with a suzuki that new i would think you would win. but i hear that the new hondas are pretty awsome.

 

if it were stock vs stock you'd take him easily, but hes got a pipe so it will be neck in neck, and if he is a good rider he might nudge out on ya just a little bit

 

It will be really close if both riders are equal in weight and expierence, but in the end i think you would come out on top by maybe a quad length or two. my buddy has a 04 z and i had a 99 400 with same mods as your buddy, and i beat him from the start then he caught up, and beat me by about a quad length.

 

Those who said it should be close would seem to be right since those models are more similar than different.

The Z makes more power and revs a little faster, and the ex has more bottom end.

So it should come down to which one is tuned better (if the carbs not jetted right for his mods it could even slow him down) and rider ability.


I am sort of curious what distance you guys normally race in general? Is it a 200ft sprint, or a 1/4 type top end test?

 

We're planning on racing accros the length of a football field. So about 100 yards.

 

The results should be interesting then since it will be more of a test of acceleration than top speed.

 

If you are only racing that far, the ex should take you. that is if both riders are equal. i know before i bored my ex out, i always beat the Z till we hit top speed. let us know what happens
