Cutting the spring wont do anything for yer thumb. The spring controls how fast the needle pulls out of the jet. The spring holds against the vacuum which is trying to pull it open. Clipping the spring allows the needle to pull out faster and allows more fuel faster.

Gator, exhaust, jets, and clutch kit, and now you've cut the spring and you still have yer original problem??? Pull yer clutch apart again, check to be sure yer rollers are clean and dont have any flat spots. If the front pulley goes together and the rollers get loose before you tighten the plate a roller can get pinched and ruin the roller. This will hold the pulley closed a lil bit and be like starting out in 2nd gear. Rollers run approx $80!!!!!!!!!!!!! Did yer kit come with new springs for the sprag clutch and are they all connected? Check to see what the RPM is when the clutch locks up.

Idaho, it looks like you built a snow plowing machine! , those heated grips sounded like the stupidest idea I ever heard of. Then I got some. WOW!!!!!

Yea, after I replied I thought more about it, the spring on the thumb throttle itself is what's too tight.

I have an EPI clutch (fixed most of the lag) a Supertrapp, Twinair filter, and I drilled out my air box and filled the holes with foam airbox inserts. mine has no lag but it still doesn't have as much snap off the bottom as I would like.

I am getting ready to put a big bore kit, cam, and new springs, that should wake things up.

Anyone just put a Webcam on with no big bore kit? I was wondering how much the cam alone helps.

all the clutch parts are new and clean, clutch engagement is good. when i hit it full throttle i feel a 2 second delay and then it rip's, a friend has a 2004 and his feels very strong from the start. maybe a updated carb from an 02 ??? how about the needle, would that cause it the lag???

If you have a 2 second lag when going from a closed to WOT it is most likely caused by the needle sticking in the holder. I would try checking the needle for trueness, also replacing the diaphragm, as it may have hardened over time.

The rollers in the clutch are usually damaged during installation and the only way to know is to take it apart. It only takes an hour tops, to take apart and put back together.
