I have a polaris trail blazer, and before that i had a 2stroke 400cc modded stage 4 scrambler. And ever since i saw one down the trails i been obsessed with the z400.. its beutiful =). And now im thinking about getting a job to buy a new quad and the problems falls.... Should i go honda, suzuki or yamaha? I was thinking of going Yamaha or suzuki but the YFZ450 is nice trail bike/racing one, But the z400 is nice also. And i wanted to kno which way should i go? I live in new york and my trails vary in conditions from Mountains to train tracks. I need a quad that can take a BEATING. And from what i hear.. the z400 is a dune quad built for endurance and it fits my needs well. Obviousely the yfz450 is better but should i buy the z400 or not? sum reasons would be nice =) and whats your total review on it?

I think for trail riding the z400 will be a better fit. Its a great trail quad and can be modded to be very fast.
The yfz 450 is a great quad designed for the track. It is alot better on trails than most give it credit for but Id rather be on a z400 in the woods.
Biggest turn off for the 450 to me is no reverse, harsh ride and that every 8 hour recommended oil change (not sure how true this is but is what dealer told my friend that just bought one)
I came down to either a z400/kfx 400 or the 700 Raptor when deciding on my new quad. I went with the 700 but came real close to getting a z400

z400 is probally the best bang for the buck. Just a all around good quad that can do almost anything good
yfz 450 is quik, light and ready to race. It likes to run fast and handles great
Raptor 700 to me (just a little bias lol) is the best all around sport quad out. Its fast has a ton of torgue (good for trails) and has a nice ride that wont beat you to death.
They are all great quads and Im sure you would be happy with any but if not going to race the 450 would be at bottom of the 3. If price isnt a problem then the 700 would be first.
Not to muddy your decisions any more but the predators are a nice machine as well. Would probally come 3rd on my list maybe 2nd

For trails I would say z400 for sure, but if you consider the Raptor also, the choice gets very hard! I had a raptor and LOVED it, but after a major engine blow up, I parted it out. I now have an 06 z400 and I am slowing liking it even more then my old 660. The better shock on the newer z400s really help if you stay with the stockers, it also has a great all around ballance. Its almost the perfect trail machine.
I also have a friend who owns several quads, one is the yamaha 450, he races and love the bike, but he took it on a trail riding trip and was pretty dissapointed with the ride in the woods. But with the right mods, I am sure it can be great too, just not out of the box.

Yes it is a tough choice between the Raptor700 and the z400. It was a tough choice for a lot of people between the old 660r and the z400. The z400 won out a lot versus the old Raptor on the handling issues. But now the 700r probably handles we well or close to a z400 it will be even a tougher choice.
In all honesty if I were to upgrade right now I'd have a tough time not buying a Raptor 700. But I love my Z and at the moment wouldn't trade it in for anything. Of course right now the z400 is still selling well compared to the Raptor partly because it costs just around $2000 less.
Like people say, in the "bang-for-your-buck" are the KFX/Z400 cannot be beat.

I think it all depends on how comfortable you feel on each quad and how much power you want
I like the Z over the YFZ. yes the yfz has more power but it was a rougher riding quad for me
the Z rode nice and had enough power for what I wanted until I wanted more. then I went a little crazy
on the mods for it. Go for the Z you wont go wrong

I would wait a year or two on the 700 Raptor because this is the first year for it and you may want to make sure there aren't any problems with it. The Z400 is a great all around machine that is very reliable and easy to upgrade. The YFZ450 is a good machine too with a bunch of upgrades this year but it is more expensive too (around 1200-1400 more) and I think there is alot more maintenance involved with the 450's too. Either one you can't go wrong.
