just for the hell of it...make sure the kill switch is in the "run" position and also try holding the rear brake lever in. The backfire can happen when the kill switch is turned "off" and then back to "run". She may have hit it accidentally.

The eiger should be capible of being bump started. Hook up a tow strap, and pull start it.
Usually a backfire is a sign of lean...did she run out of gas?
Do you get a click of the starter relay, when you press the start button? Do the headlights work?
Did the battery connections come loose?

I'll throw my $.02. Pull the plug then try to pull it over with the rope (does gas come out?). (Had this happen to mine after I put it on its side the float would stick in the carb).
If it is hard then. Check the oil (is it oil? Does it smell of gas?)
If the oil looks smells good pull the starter motor off (maybe the starter gear is jamed on the flywheel)
Any way it should pull over pretty easy with the rope. With the spark plug in and evan easier with it out.
I can't imagin that a valve could be bent from a back fire with the quad traveling at any speed. The momentum of the quad would prevent the flywheel from stopping that would have to be a backfire with a lot of compression.

The way he described it being hard to pull could very well be caused by the backfire. A chance it may have jumped time/ bent valve/ backfired or any combination of the 3. Jumped time, caused it to backfire , did/didnot bend valve, depends on how far outa time it jumped, all add up to hard turn over. Not saying thats what it is 100%, but ive seen the exact same scenario recently in my cousins sons bayou 250.

Well lets see:

Its not out of gas
Its not the kill switch
its not the gas shut off
the lights do work
the starter doesnt make a sound at all
Cant pull start except every second time
havent made it to the stealer yet but probably headed there, need to check the fuses, havent done that yet.

appreciate all the replies...the bent internals ideas are a little on the scary side.
