02 Vinson shifting trouble

02 Vinson shifting trouble
I'm a newbie here and a newbie quad owner.
Sometimes my 02 Vinson auto will not go into gear, the shifter moves but will not register.
I have to kinda slam it into gear and it pops then goes into gear. (linkage needs adjustment?)
