Default best mod for Z400 ?

I have a stock '04 KFX 400. When I want to ride it, I get on it and tap the starter button. Guess what? It starts right up everytime! My Friend has a '03 Z-400. He has just about everything imaginable done to it. Full Yosh pipe, hot cams, K&N with no airbox, High compression pistion, revv box, ect...I would say it has been to the shop 20 times to get it running right. One thing or another is messed up always. If Suzuki could make there z-400 faster without messing up reliability...don't you think they would do it?? If you want to go faster, save your money and get a 450!
p.s. don't get made at me for my opinion, this is just what I have experienced with modded machines.....I DON'T consider a pipe and a K&N a mod! That won't mess anything up. Good luck modding a z-400, it will never be faster than a 450

Nine times out of ten, a poorly running machine is not the mod but the modder. With that said...

My cousin's Z400 came alive with a full Yosh pipe, K&N filter and Yoshi rev box. That thing rips! And it's got a little piston slap still.

I would say... put some 18 inch Razr Mx tires on there next. Buy a good steeering stem (like Houser) with the anti-vibe clamp and buy a good set of handlebars (like Fasst Co.'s Flexx bars) and some handguards. Next thing I'd do is buy a sweet bumper to set the quad off. Some key mods include: A radiator to handle the hotter temps you will be pushing, a belly/chassis skid to keep your frame from getting beat up, stainless brake lines and wave-style rotors.

Put some time on the motor and new suspension before you tear into the motor. Stock=reliability!

Did your '05 come stock with the reservoir mounted shocks? If so, my cousin may be interested in them for his quad.

A kit as described above. The porting is the key as it's an art.... Hotrod sells a 5mm stroker crank for around 400. A lighter flywheel helps alot if topend is needed..

Oh no, you zuk guys are the best. Lets all grow our mullets back and ride in the past where you may have stood a chance against a yami if the quadzilla would stay together. The quadzilla is and always will be a unicorn fantasy, and for that fantasy Ill take the banshee anyday. Enough said about that anyway suzuki has nothing to compete with yamaha except for the 450, for that I will give them respect for the fuel injection and suspension but not the frame or the cheeseball colors. And if you love your pansy little 400 that much youll change your mind once the hair pops out. Futhermore the raptor will whip you like a 40 yr old virgin, and thats the 660. The 700r will be much more of a nightmare. As far as post Ive been riding for years and have never took the time to converse with people on here but its a blast talking to dingbats like yourself.
