Default help with 88 quadrunner ltf250

Hello all

Had a smoking problem with my quad, along with fairly low compression. Yes, the top ring was seriously worn. Changed that along with the oil rings and the 2nd ring. The problem was significant prior to changing; there was/is oil sludge dribbling from the exhaust. Now, it runs like a champ, but still smokes, but only when the engine has been running for a while...warmed up. Seems like when the oil thins it smokes. Question: is this a normal part of break in for new rings? It is burning oil for sure, as the level dropped. I can't remove the muffler drain as some @#$%^% welded it shut. I suspect that once hot the oil in the pipe is burning off too, but given the oil consumption, that's not the only problem. I was so pumped when I first started it (and when I still first start it) that there was no smokage. Everything else seems fine. Help would be really appreciated!!

Ron

Your piston is worn out u change that and u will be ok! i did the same thing with my 87 just changed the rings and didnt change pistons.. well get a new piston and rings and u will stop all that smoke.. 2 strokes normaly dont do that after they warm up.. they smoke when there cold but when there warm everythign expands and seals so I hope that solves ur problem
