well I was going to say a timing chain but since its a 2 stroke I would say that it sounds like your piston...check the rings to make sure they are gapped correctly and that nothing is rubbing...also that everything is torqued down to specs.

Thinking piston slap. But I could be wrong.

don't take my word for it as i don't know an awful lot about these quads but i have had the same sort of problem on a motox bike and found the powervalve was incorrectly fitted

I was thinking piston slap too ( You use a weisco?) but the powervalve thing makes sence also.

any weird noises coming from your top end is a cause for concern, it could potentially end up costing you more money, if you have just had a rebuild you should of had a hone/rebore and the piston kit replaced with a new slightly oversize one, you should not get piston slap with a new rebuild, the little end bearing should of been replaced so that should eradicate any problem there. Have you changed the jetting because it sounds like maybe you are getting "pinking" is your quad running hot? check your spark plug, run your quad, open it up (but not too much as your on a new rebuild and shouldn't thrash it) then immediately shut the throttle and hit the kill switch, remove the spark plug (let it cool down a bit first though) the end of the spark plug should be a light brown colour if it is white or has white spots you quad is running too hot and that is not good, if you think it is running too hot check for an air leak, torque all nuts down too spec especially check the intake manifold around the reed block and make sure the bolts are tight there, you may need to up your jetting a little if you are now running an oversize piston, if you don't think your quad is running hot and the spark plug looks ok then i would remove your powervalve and refit it following your owners manual, if your powervalve is not fitted correctly you will notice a lack of performance.
