Cams are slightly different along w/ a slightly bigger carb. The front shocks are fully adjustable and that's the biggest selling point.. I would still buy an older Z that is built up for less dollars.

how wide can you actually make a z400? whats the widest you can get it using A-Arms?, NO spacers on the front tho, that puts a lot of stress on steering components and increases bump steer,

Front of mine is 48" Rear is 50".. A-arms & A adjustable rear axle

IS YOUR BACK AXLE EXTENDED ALL THE WAY?

how low can you get a z400, 40" with 50" wide would be really nice centre of gravity

Go with a z250 over a z400.....yea right. a z250 is tippy, not near as comfortable, not as stable, does not handle near as well and is way underpowered compared to a z400. go ride one, you will see. I have both so I know.

dude im almost 6'2, i dont think a z250 would make the cut for not being tippy, sure its not tippy with a 4'8 rider on it but thats a whole different story, with me it would be top heavy, (and its only 42" wide?)

i want a quad that is at least 45 inches wide, but if its only 45" wide, then i want it no taller than 42"

If you trailride more than race, get the z400. if you go to the dunes more than you trail ride, and your more worried about speed, get a 450. The thing I like about my 400 is the reverse and it has alot of aftermarket parts. It can easily be made to outrun a 450. I just put together a LTR450 engine for a friend and i ported the head, both engines are very similar. His intake/ehaust valves measured the exact sme as mine, the only difference was his were titanium. The combustion chambers were probably from the same casting. My intake/exhaust ports were slightly bigger and the 400 head has a lil more "meat" for porting than the 450. By summer time, i'll have the rest of the mods done to my bike and I'll be embarrassing quite a few 450's. Its all about combo/rider.

What are the bore and stroke on both quads, is the the ltr450 just a bored out or stroker version of the z400 or is it a combination of both?

The bore/stroke on the z400: 90mm bore, 63mm stroke. LTr450: 95.5mm bore, 62.8mm stroke
Honda 450r: bore 96mm, stroke 62mm yfz450: bore 95mm, stroke 63.4 Hmmm, sounds like a 450cc big bore kit on a z400 would put it pretty equal. I really don't see why it would not.
Here are the weights of each quad:
honda 450r: 363lbs
yfz450: 350 lbs
Ltr450: 368lbs
Z400:373lbs...... yea the yfz is 23lbs lighter, but you can take a few things off the z400 and get it pretty close. I don't understand why the z400 does not get much credit....everyone says I should have got a 450. For less money I can make mine just as fast or faster and have a reverse, when mine is done....its going to be a sleeper.
