The most common complaint was crud getting in the carb. Most have added inline fuel filters. I haven't had a problem since doing so.
Never heard of riding in low. I do for the tough stuff in the mountains but for fooling around I'm usually in high and haven't had any issues.
The book calls for adjusting the valves after a certain point. I did so I can't really say if there is a problem if you don't.....

Service manual says check valve lash after 100 miles or 1 month and then every 1,200 miles or 6 months.
Problem area, at least with my two Eigers and my dad's Gen 1 King, is the stupid vacuum actuated fuel petcock. Worthless design that works intermittantly. Some days it'll run fine at the On position, but most of the time if we're on really rough terrain, where we aren't revving the engine much off idle, ours will occasionally die. Switching fuel valve to Prime takes care of it.

More than likely... if my Dad's '97 King has it, I'd guess all the carb'd Suzuki's do as well. Once you figure out that they run fine on Prime setting, then it's not really an issue. Just a hassle. When I park the ATVs or trailer them, I put the valve back to ON just so maybe the fuel won't leak or do anything it's not supposed to.
