Default 85lt250r?

I found an 85 lt250quadracer, the guy said it runs strong was fully restored 12 years and then it just sat. Just recently he got it running but he said it is cometictly rough. He wants 950obo what should i offer him. WHat should i look for, i don't care if i have to rebuild it, just want to know what to looke for. Are there any specific spots on the frame i should keep my eye out for? What kind of parts will swap over to it from the 87-92?

There were some frame probs with the Qracers, mostly long term wear and tear stuff that really could plague any model. Check where the footpegs and shock mounts attach to the frame, and any other frame problems. Other than that they seem to be good machines. As far as what will switch over from 87+ models, not much. Carbs will swap, but why bother? The 85 shocks are shorter and they use a different lugnut pattern for the rear wheels. The engines are totally different models, the frames are likewise dissimilar. You won't be able to swap plastics, seats, pretty much anything. The front wheels will swap, but my studs were to short to accept a .190 aftermarket rim. I have an '85 and my brother has an '87. Both purchased about 4 years ago. I have tried swapping some a few things.

look at the swngarm on the 85-86. they are prone to crack, near the carrier and shock mount.

there are alot of parts that will swap from the newer years. fenders all swap. the swingarm and rear shock set up from the 87-90 will fit the 85-86. seat, brakes, axles, radiators, steering stems, controls, front hubs.

check out lt250 lt500 hq for more quadracer info http://s15.invisionfree.com/LT250_LT...ex.php?act=idx
