Check out the 2wd/4wd lever on the bars. Open it up an look inside - there is a small white plastic cam that hooks to the 4wd cable. It's only about 3/8" long. If it breaks, the bike will default to 4wd. The part is not replacable - the whole lever assembly will need to be replaced. Runs around $85 IIRC.

You can also check where the cable hits the front dif to see if it's jammed with anything.

I took it apart and it looks like its ok. It looked like they switched it to metal. I took a Pic and loaded it on my profile to see if thats what you where talking about. I guess ill look at the other end of the cable in the morning. thanks for the help.

Yup, that's what I was talking about. Glad to see that they made it metal.

I've never had to adjust my 4x4 cable, but I understand that it's done down at the bottom end. I would say that your problem is either the cable adjustment or a stick or other debris holding it in 4wd.

Flipped it over this morning and found the spot where you adjust the plunger that engages the 4x4. It seamed to be sticking a little bit so I sprayed it a bit with WD40 and adjusted it about a full turn and it works fine now. I loaded a picture of the plunger for the next person that has the problem (pics speak a thousand words) but it is very tight in there. The front nut is a pain to loosen, which allows you to tighten the back screw. Thanks again for the help, great forum.

You can adjust the cable right below the plastic, and above the tire (hidden by a rubber boot) also
