check to see if everything is working smoothly and that no water it getting in because the seals for the rear drum may have gone bad or something may be stuck holding the brakes and wearing out the pads more quickly.

Ive had it apart a couple of times and the seal looks ok. I may have to keep tearing it apart and clean it after i go playing in the mudbecause that seal that goes on the cover runs a little over a 100 bucks.

If you look at my pics, you can see that I play in the mud too. I've only had to mess with the pivot shaft on my rears, and the shoes were A-OK. You have a defect in some part that's letting in contamination or you have an adjustment problem.

If you can't push the rear brake control arm with your hand and watch it spring back quickly, then you have a problem. If you can't push the arm because they are adjusted so tight there's no free play, you have a problem. Both of these problems aren't due to the brake shoes, they are a problem with freeplay/dragging.
Also, believe it or not, some people ride their brakes. Pay close attention to your hand or foot next time you ride. Do you have a tendency to touch the handle/pedal all the time? You might be riding your brakes unconsciously. I'd bet most people that have that problem would refuse to admit it even if shown a video tape of them doing it.
