I have looked at these both and really like them. Comparing to a Polaris 500 what is the scoop. I am buying for Ice Fishing and hunting. I drove the 450 and was impressed with the ride. The engine seem quite responsive and powerful and overall I liked the looks of it almost more than the polaris. I need a good starter for the winters in MN so that is why I really want the EFI. Is this a good buy and would you spend the extra $800 for the 700 or would I be fully satisfied with the 450. I want a tough utility that I can drag my house with, and use for work around the place. The Polaris is the hottest selling unit here in MN Though I want something different. Thanks

 

I my self currently own the 06 700 KQ and love it. I will be honest though, I am not a big fan of Polaris because they are too heavy(polaris 500 is roughly the same weight as the kQ 700) there 4x4 engagement system just to name a few. But the next guy will point out things about the KQ also. I do not know much about the 450 but some articles do give it praise. Me personally If I had to do it again it would be the KQ700 but a black one. It handles and pulls good even in stock form.

DO NOT buy Polaris!! Owned a 2006 500 Camo EFI!! Trouble!!! It is sold and I am looking at a 450 Suzuki 450 EFI!!

 

As for cold starts, My 07 has started in -4 temps with no problems. the 450 is the same except for the cc's on the King Quad. I think for what your wanting either will do fine. Just for the record my buddy has a 03 grizz (carb) not EFI and it sits in the cold about 8hrs a day and its been -8 to -25 with the wind chill and starts just as easy as my EFI 700 KQ so carb or EFI it should start just fine. I would make sure you are using a thinner weight oil for the cold weather starts. It will make a huge differance in the starting of any quad it the sub zero temps.

 

Thanks for the info. Yeah I have not been much of a fan with the Polaris. I just see so many having trouble. Of course there is a lot of them around. And lets see the Polaris is 728LBS for the 500 the KQ700 is 600. For Oil I was going to use the Amsoil 0w oil that they sell. Have heard good things as far as cold starting goes. Is the KQ700 fairly easy on Gas? I guess that would be the deciding factor for me. How much of a difference would I see in fuel consumption. I would bet either would be fine, but just curious from current owners. Any other things to look at?

 

I know that the KQ 700 is great on fuel, When we ride in WV, as long as I top off in the morning,I can go all day, without the xtra fuel cell. But I cannot lie, the stock tires are crap! The dealer told me this because that the manufacturer knows that there is too many style of tires and riding conditions out there for just one type of tire, even though some other brands like Polaris, do put on decent radials.

 

I was going to put ITP Mud lite xtp's on whatever I buy. I actually will keep the stock tires for yard work being less aggressive and the ITP's for my fun. I think most stock tires minus maybe the polaris are crap. Honda, Yamaha, suzuki all use cheap tires I think for the purpose to keep the price down. Great to know the 700 is quite good on gas. Bigger tank than the Polaris and a single instead of the twin which should help in this area.

 

Correct, and the engine brake will work all four wheels in 4wd,not like the polaris, it also sounds better,doesn't have a softer ride than the polaris but it still ain't bad at all, plus it is a lot better in tight spots. I tested both and an articat before buying.

 

If U do and rock climbing stay away from those mudlites bought the wheel kit when I bought 05 King and terrible on rocks

 

Thanks Eisel, I don't plan on doing any rock climbing. We are talking light mud, snow and dirt here. I heard the mudlites excel in those areas. Any other tired for the KQ would be apprieciated. Leaning towards that tire solely from a sales pitch from a dealer in the area. Not sure if they are the best bang for the buck or not?
