ozark neutral indicator problems
#1
I recently purchased a used ozark. It has a known issue that should be covered by the extended warranty but the factory is denying the transfer... thats another story... anyway, with the bike in neutral the indicator does not light up. Once in a while just turning the engine over with the starter cord is enough to get it to light up and start using the starter. Other times the light never illuminates and requires it to be started using the pull cord. Another symptom is once it is running the neutral light will flicker as the motor is reved up and dim completely at an idle. Applying the brake when idling will cause the light to illuminate bright like it is suppose to... I know this seems like it should dim but it dont... it gets brighter and solid. One last symptom is the headlights... they are also very dim until the brake is applied and then they get full brightness too. I dont know if all this is related to one failing component and am not sure how to troubleshoot this issue so any input would be great. I could take it to the shop but would at least like to see what I can learn before doing that.
Thanks for any help you may have.

hey man
i have the same exact problem. my neutral light won't illuminate but thats because my neutral indicator wire comming outta the tranny got fried and melted, jus never replaced it.
SO your problem could be 2 possibilites:
1. The neutral indicator wire comin outta the tranny (on the left side of the engine above the shifter) could be damaged. (cut, fried, etc.)
2. On the back of the engine there is the ground wire coming off the battery the grounds on the engine. It might have popped out. (good chance it did)
i already fried 2 wiring harnesses due to that ground wire coming off (even started a fire but thats a different story lol)

Thanks for the reply... I have checked the ground wire on the battery and the neutral switch... There is nothing obvious as far as being burnt or cut. I did a continuity check from the battery to the plug on the cooling block and it checks out. I removed the block and scratched the frame under the block to make sure of a good ground connection to the frame and reinstalled. The continuity from the block to the neg term now is better but the light still does not illuminate. I removed the neutral switch and didn't see anything obvious. I reinstalled the switch, restarted the bike and still have the same results. The start light is off until it is running and then flickers as it runs. The headlights are dim and flicker as well. When the brake is applied, the headlights get brighter. I could see a faulty safety switch causing the start light to stay off but can it cause the flickering when it runs and the headlights to get brighter when a brake is applied? The flickering seems to be a sign...
I would appreciate any other input.
Thanks

Hey DChip... I looked for a wire grounding to the motor and dont see anything. The two wires that come off the battery go to: a fuse block (fuses are good) and the smaller one goes to the plug that is connected to the aluminum ground block monted on the frame in the left rear wheel compartment. Where is that wire located on the motor block?
