Default suzuki lt80 2002 please help.

i got a 2002 lt80 on ebay, and it was close to my house;wen i picked up the atv it was riden and tested very quick because the owner was on his way to the airport,so i couldn't get much information.
the atv is a bullet,is very fast and it has a racing package conversion, but needs some carb adjustments and it has some modifications in the oil system and i'm dont have any experience with this subjects, and i need to get it ready for my son.

1-the throtle it was modified to twist throtle,is any way to control the speed ,how fast it can go with this set up?

2-the carb needs some adjustment; the machine runs super great, but wen you stop need to lift the choke it turns off; i waa told by the owner that he came from detroit not too long a go,so the carb is set for 6000 ft altitude, and here in miami requieres a "sea level" adjustment any info in how is done? the dealers ask for a fortune here in town.

3-the oil injection system it was modified, actually removed, wich i was told by the owner it was something very normal to do on this atv's; the oil tank is gone and in the place of the oil valve is a cap; the previous owner told me that he always did a direct mix; gas and oil thru the gas tank. Now i dont know how to mix the amount of oil and gas;? what type of gas?what type of oil? how much gas and oil?
i also will like to drain the complette gas tank and what ever is on the engine and start fresh with a new mix(gas and oil); how that is done?

4-is anyway to check the transmition fluid? it has any?

any sugestions to mantain this atv in good running condition

Welcome to the forums.

Twist:: YUCK! LOL no there is no way to limit the throttle now. The stock thumb set-up is like $35 if you want to go back to a thumb throttle. I take it you have no front brakes now?

Carb:: Do you have a stock carb or the aftermarket 20mm? Way to tell: the 20mm will have a big tube and the filter stuck on it.
His refering to altitude, is a jetting change. I'd need to know what jets are in there to advise.

Oil/gas:: A good synthetic (TORCO GP-7 or KLOTZ R-50) mixed at 32:1 is what I recommend. Prolly should use premeum pump gas.

Tranny oil:: In front of the front sprocket, there is a 10mm socket size bolt. Oil should weep out when removed. FYI: the fill hole is on top and is a 12mm socket size.

Maintenence:: carb and clutchs. Carb: clean when something justb isn't right...clutchs: service them making sure the rollers have NO flat spots. Rear clutch has bearings that need checked now and then.

A note really for LT-80.

You mention about the rear tranny oil on the LT-80. I use a whole fleet of LT-80's (I've got 10 of them!)....
but I've never checked the rear tranny oil!!! Didn't know you needed to??

Is it the screw just in front of the small sprocket (10mm)? And you say the fill bolt is just above it (12mm?)

To give you some idea of how much my bikes get used, they go through a chain and sprocket after 2 years (Fair do's that's pretty good considering).

I have some now that are 3 years and over and they are still going strong. I have noticed that the front bearings have quite a bit of play in them along with the steering stem mount and the tyres are almost done.

The engines on them are simply awesome. They go forever!

Have you used the new Z90?

greets.

Hi daquadfather,

Yes indeed they need the tranny checked. Youy may even want to change the oil (any 10-40 oil is fine) with the use yours get.
Yes, the bolt by the front sprocket and fill above (on the flat).
I've got motors in that are running ok but the next size pioston fits in them w/o boring. Now that's bulletproof!

No Z90. I'm sure I;ll get one in someday.

K,

I've checked the tranny oil on all of them and it's all running out of the check bolt (10mm on side) fine.

All the oils are black in colour apart from one of them which was mega milky and running thinner than the others.

I will change this but why is it milky? I'm guessing there is clutch wear or something like that?

Can I use a GL5 gear oil EP90 or something? I've found the drain plug underneath the rear skid plate and is a 12mm.

How much oil do they take? I'm guessing not that much.....

cheers for everything...

Milky is usually a sign of water in the oil.
oils:: Not sure of the type of oil you mention so I'll explain it this way. use the same oil that you would use in your cars engine.
I'm unsure of the amount but I will say that I like to over fill them.
