700 King Quad Burning oil
#1
I am posting this message on behalf of four people, myself included, that have purchased 2005 King Quads. We have all brought our machines in for servicing for the summer months and all of us are losing oil. A leakage test was done on all our machines and all 4 have failed. Numbers received are as follows: 74% loss, 55% loss, 54% loss and the fourth failed but I am not sure what the loss was. We all take very good care of our machines and all atv's have between 1000 and 2000 kms. This is not normal. We have been told by our dealership that the test results have been faxed to Suzuki and that they will respond within the next few days. We have all been running with the stock air filters and I have read that many are changing to foam filters. I have been told by an ex mechanic for Suzuki to make sure when my ATV was taken in for the compression test that it have the stock air filter just in case Suzuki blames the foam filter on the compression problem. Interesting comment I think! Not a problem for us since we all ran stock filters.
Has anyone else had the same oil loss issues with their King Quads? If so, what was Suzuki's response?
Thank you. I will keep you posted on how Suzuki handles our problem.

I think the problem goes further than riding characteristics. I've heard of Suzuki telling the dealer to change air filters on new unused machines(still in stock). Interesting stuff!! Keep this thread alive Atvfan1 and keep us comprised of any new info you have please. Good luck.

First allow me to clearify my original post. It was a leakage test that failed, not the compression test. Compression on all the ATV's was fine. I am not a mechanic so my understanding is that oil is making its way into the piston and is being burnt with the fuel. Something to do with the rings I think.
To answer your questions Culby. Air filter was cleaned on a regular basis and the ATV was brought to the dealer for regular servicing. Yes we ride on dusty trails but so do others who own Polaris Yamaha Bombs and Kawi's, and they are not having the same problems. Oil was supplied by my dealer and I would assume they know what kind to use. Oil was changed about every 400 km's. Remember we only drive about 800 km a year.
I will keep posting our results with Suzuki.

Here's the problem the stock air filters get plugged just enough that, that big motor sucks alot of air. When this happens it pulls unfiltered air from around the base of the filter right into the motor, taking out the rings and the intake valves

Yeah a friend of mine went through the same thing and his dealer won't do anything about it. His KQ burns so much oil now it looks like he's fogging for mosquitoes.

Had same problem with 05 king quad. Suzuki did nothing about it. Even had the extended warranty, waste of money. In the end it cost me 1600 for a rebuild. It isn't just suzuki though, none of these manufactures want to stand behind they products, even if you buy their freaken warranty. Good luck, hope you are more successful than I was.

Just got off the phone with Suzuki. They are offering to pay for all the parts to rebuild the top end, approx. $1,500 worth of parts. They will not cover the labour. Approx. $400. I will be replacing the paper air filter right away with my Uni. I would suggest all King Quad owners do the same.
