Default crankshaft nut

I was reading an article on the forum about a crackshaft nut that comes loose on several bikes. I have a Suzuki LT250r atv and it did just that.

Left me broke down at Sand Mountain, NV and now I have started to fix it.:
I pulled the clutch cover and found the nut wasted and the crank threads a mess. I ordered a thread repair file as the machine shop guy said and haven't got a clue how to use it. I am guessing next I want to clean the threads and use red lock tite and torque the nut down, does this sound right?

Also I don't know what pitch the threas are for the crankshaft as they are left handed.

Any help anyone can offer would be appreciated.

Joe
