Upgrade from LT50 to LT80?
#1
My son is tall for his age, but very skinny. I test drove 2 LT80's. A 2002 that ran good, but was crashed too many times and a 2005 that barely got movinig. It ran good at high speeds, but ran worse off the line than his 50. Should his next step be the 80? I'm tempted to buy a brand new 06' LT80, but don't want him to outgrow too quick. Any suggestions?

If you want lowe end power for hills, I would go with something with lots of torque, like the AC DVX 90 (or anything else made by Kymco for that matter), or perhaps an Eton product like the new 4-stroke Eton Viper 90R (with reverse).

The LT80 will serve you well.
There is a problem with the 05 80 that had no low. Maybe restrictors not removed or a front clutch issue.
I consider LT80's grunt monsters.

The guy that had the 05 80 was clueless on the power on the low end. He could tell I wasn't too happy with it and is looking for a fix. It's a good price, but not if it doesn't run right. He had mentioned the clutch as a possible issue. Any suggestions on the issue? You could hold it back giving it gas. It had a lot of top end speed.

my lil brother has a kfx80, same thing as lt, and it does not have a lot of low end either. there are 2 restrictor plates, one in the exhaust and one in the carb. i have not taken them out but also keep in mind it is a 2 stroke. they are not meant for low end. they need to hit powerband before they pull

I just talked with the seller and he said the air filter is trashed. He said $1250.

$1100 and it's in my garage. Now I need to locate that low end. I'm going to go Online tonight to locate the restricters. The throttle screw is missing. The two other things I noticed about the quad is that there is a mud like substance all over it that doesn't wash off with normal soap and water and the other thing is a little more leakage between the head and the pipe than what I'm used to. I pulled the carb off checking for a restrictor, but no go. I thought the plastic piece between the carb and the reeds was it, but screws are too long with out it. Let me know your suggestions.

The restrictors are:
1) a brass ring liliting the full movement of the carb slide. This is under the screw top of the carb.
2) a washertype thing inbetween the pipe and cylinder.
Yes they leak alot of oil at the pipe. they are jetted fat.
