Eiger 5spd vs Auto
#2
I have never driven a 5spd Eiger, the one that I have is an auto. But all the other atvs that I had riden up until I got my Eiger were 5spds. I love my auto for stuff like driving through mud holes or snow. I love it for plowing my driveway. It is even nice for general trail riding. But I sure wish I had the ability to pick my gears when I start riding more aggressivly. Or when I am climbing a big hill, sometimes I feel like I need to kick back a gear, but you just can't do that with an auto. If I had it to do all over again, I would probably stick with the auto.

I'm kinda the other way around from you. For agressive riding, hill climbing and such I find the auto to be much more adaptive. No need to wonder if you're in the right gear because you're always in that gear. For casual trail riding however, I would rather have a 5spd for simple fuel efficiency. Auto quads tend to ride at high RPM's even when going slow so that they stay in the powerband, where with a 5psd you could putt along in 5th at low rpm.

After driving the auto I am surprised & impressed, much better then I thought. I think auto is the way I'll go unless I hear something really bad.....thanks for the input, hopefully hear some more comments, thanks.
