Default clutch control lever problems

I pulled the lever that controls the clutch out of the bottom end of my 85 250r. I tried putting it back in but when i do it just moves back and forth with no restriction. I dunno if there is something i have to do that im not doing or i just messed something up. Any ideas?

Yes, I have mine apart right now. There are teeth that the lever goes onto right?

If I am reading your question right.

In turn at the bottom of the shaft there are teeth that have to lighn up as well.

Try turning the shaft for the clutch untill you feel it grab the teeth inside on the clutch plate.

Try this fiche it may help.

OK, so you pulled the shaft out that pulls the pressure plate on the clutch? Right? Cause I am not sure what the lever is that you are asking about.

You're clutch cable should pull on a arm/ clutch release which in turn rotates the Pinion /clutch release. This is what pulls the pressure plate awy from the clutch in order to shift gears.

Do you have a manual to consult?/

i pulled out what you described as a pinino/clutch realease lever. I can get it in and it feels like it is grabing the clutch but does not sping back. It only moves so far foward and then i have to move it back with my hand. It feels as if there should be a sping or something that insint working.

I hear ya,

I just spent a couple of ohours puttin my 250 back together.

When I put my pinion shaft back in it has to grab thos teeth on the end of the shaft that comes out of the pressure plate on the clutch.

I tried to turn mine with my hand a I could'nt. Try letting all the slack out of your clutch cable and put the arm clutch release as far back as you can, then adjust your clutch. It should grab, but as far as being able to move it back and forth with your hand or fingers it's not possible. The six springs that nold the pressure plate on are to strong, that's why the clutch is so hard on these bikes.

You may have to open the case to take a look see on what's goin on.

Sorry I am not more help.

Let me know if youd like to talk live, as I just put mine back together this afternoon and it's fresh in my memory.
