Yes, the lt's are reliable in my mind. The 85-86 models were just not as good as the later models. The main problems I hear about them is swingarm cracking, shock tower cracking, and water getting into the oil. When I owned my '85 lt, I had no problems at all. My new one hasn't had any problems at all either. As far as the hood goes, I'm not sure if your talkin about the Mair hood or the Zilla hood. The Mair hood is a bit larger than the stock LT, the zilla hood is always distinct cause of its single virticle bar in the grill, the OEM Lt250r hood has 2 horizontal slits and the Mair has just a square opening with a screen.

mine has been very reliable i've taken it through so much stuff and it still keeps goin. as far as i know all the stock hoods are the same except the 250 and the 500's had different ones. my 85 hasn't had a crakced swingarm or anything like that but i 'm not sure if this is the stock one or not...

I found the hood I like in dirtwheels. It is on and 91.I also found the one I don't like.I gues it is maier thhough it is on an 85.The plastic is blue and doesn't look to good so I think it is maier.THe main reason I want an LT is price. The trx's are 2500-3500 for a stock one in decent comdition will I found many nice LT's with shocks, pipe, etc, etc for around 1500-2000 on cycle trader.com.
