Help Needed - Oil Plug
#1
hey guys i need some assistance.
i was changing the oil on my ozark today. As i was reinstalling the oil bolt it seemed funny and wouldnt tightened. pulled it out and the threads on the engine part were flattened. Any solutions to this problem will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

I did the same thing on my Ozark. It's REAL easy to over tighten and I stripped it. I took it to the dealer and they put in the helicoil. Only cost me $20 to fix. After that, I now always use a torque wrench when tightening to keep from over doing it.

they funny thing is is that i didnt overtighten it. i hand screw the bolt in and when i went to tighten it with the ratchet it jus wouldnt tighten. I pulled it out and some of the threads were on the bolt and the inside looked like it was flattened, but the bolt is fine. tell me more about this helicoil
thanks

A helicoil is basically a "coil" looking hollow threaded bolt that will basically re-thread the stripped hole. They come is a kit with multiple sizes. The coil threads into the hole, and then the bolt threads into the coil.
Having the hole retapped, and getting a new drain plug is also an option.

The best way to measure IMO it to go to an auto parts store and buy a cheap bolt gauge. They are usually plastic and cost about $5-$10 bucks or so. They generally have holes on one side to measure the size (in MM and in std) and then there is usually a thread feeler on the side to measure the thread count as well (1.00 or 1.50 etc.).
