upcoming 250s faster than 450s?
In the '80s the lt250r's were almost always faster than the lt500r's. Well, on the track at least cuz it was almost 70lbs lighter.... (500 was 390lbs, 250 was 323lbs? am i right)
Do you think that an upcoming lt-r250 will be faster on the track than the lt-r450?
The 250 will (im jsut guessing here) be much lighter than the 450, probably just a bit over 300lbs to be really competetive with the 08 raptor 250. It will hopefully have an unrestricted version of the rm-z250 inside it, (unlike the 450's which are very plugged up rm-z/kx-f/yz-f/crf/450's) so it should be running around 32-36hp stock with EFI (2008 crf250r already has EFI same with the all the 450 dirtbikes of all manufacturers)
What do you think? If it comes in at 35hp stock with EFI, and weighs 313lbs (like the new yamaha raptor250) and if it is 46" wide with 46" wheelbase and 9" travel on front and rear, (it will obviously be smaller than the 450's because its for younger riders i think) WILL IT GET BETTER OR REALLY COMPETETIVE TRACK TIMES COMPARED TO THE 450S?

No it won't be faster.....
And the lt250 2-strokes were not faster than the lt500 2-strokes. The difference was that the 250 had more usable power. The 500 had too much power for the track and would not hook up coming out of the corners the way the 250 would.
Today's 450s have tons or tractable power. I'm sure just like in MX/SX the fast 250 riders will have enough power to run with the slower 450 riders. But in the right hands the 450 will be much faster.

you also need to remember that a dirtbike engine's HP rating is at the wheels just like a quad. With more wheel hitting the ground it creates more drag and friction. This will make the same engine have less HP rating on a heavier machine with more drag. The 35 HP rated RMZ-250 engine will more likely be around 28 or so on a machine that weighs 75 lbs more and has more wheel to the ground.

The weight in the corners will help keep it down. The weight in the air really isn't gonna be that noticeable, unless it lands on you.
If the 250's were really that much better, you'd be seeing those raced and developed a lot more than they are.</end quote></div>
Ya but you'ld feel it in inertia wouldnt you? like when you change directions in the air, and/or tailwhips or stuff like that (you see a lot of it in dirtbike mx, but on quads you see people doing it too, just not completely on its side)
