z400 accidental coolant flush today .........
#1
Got into some slower tight trails today and suddenly steam started billowing out of the RH side of my engine.
I rode back to the staging area and started looking for the leak..... I could not see anything and the reservoir was full.
I went for another short ride to see if it would steam again and then I noticed the reservoir was empty so I knew something was up.
I get back to the staging area again and I notice a slight wet spot on the radiator guard. Then I see the problem.....
A stick or rock must have hit the radiator cap, it was twisted off jambed up into the stoppers. The radiator neck was cut in one area... cut by the cap itself twisting all cocked.....
I backed it off slowly hoping not to snap the soft radiator neck..... luckily I was able to get it off without any more damage. And amazingly it still seems to seal ...... I filled it back up with the rest of the Engine Ice I had left..... seems to be good to go...
I wish I knew how it happened, I'm wondering if some metal radiator guards might have prevented it.
