lt230s in need of help

I'm new to this site but want to say it's great. lots of good forums lots of good info.
I'm building a 230 quadsport from the ground up. It's rolling now but i'm having problems getting it started. I think i have the wiring figured out but i'm not getting spark. the kill switch works and i'm getting power to the ignition coil lead when kicked over but no spark at the plug. i checked the resistance through the coil and get no reading. is there another way to check the coil, am i doing it wrong? maybe the coils shot? I'm also really bad with carbs. i rebuilt and cleaned it but when i turn the gas on i get a slow drip out the overflow. the carb came from someones previous project bike. Is it possible it's misadjusted, or maybe the float getting stuck? any guesses or ideas would be appreciated.The quads starting out bone stock so if anyone has any suggestions as to some good mods to make to the sport i'd like to hear them too. Where the quadsports weak spots? Gearing, the intake, how bout the suspension. Any help would be great.

and those carbs suck the biggest shaft out there! should be resistance between coil wire that goes to plug and one of the two terminals on the coil! if ur not getting good power outa stator check the flywheel key, if u can turn flywheel motor should turn to!!!!I had a problem with this and bought all new oem cdi and coil and was 94 cent piece

thanks for the help. got a new coil this one checks out ok. carb stopped leaking too(go figure). still aint getting getting spark though. checked the voltage at the coil wire while kicking it over and it's minimal. am gonna check the magneto again but i think i remember spinning it over when i put the mtor together. I have power coming from the orange wire out the stator but not the black, gonna check pickups. maybe i got a wire crossed in the headlight bucket???? any one know whats a good gearing setup? how about a good place to start building up more power. this quadsport is new to me and i'm not sure if it's even worth sinking the money into, but i still live in the 80's and can't seem to get interested in the quads out now..fuel injection? computers?? 10+ inches of suspension travel??? boggles my mind.
