Default LT250r Jetting question

Any Carb gurus out there.
I picked up an 87 lt250r..it does not have th stock air box on it. (Unifilter in open)
I can put the choke on and start it in 2 kicks. It will sit there an idle fine. I will make a short run to clear out the excess gas from choke. Bike runs good for about 20-30 minutes.(Trail riding) Seems like it starts to load up and I have to rev it up to clear it out..Finally it seems lik the choke is on and finally dies... Will not start unless I replace the plug. Pull the old plug and it is black and wet. Put in the new plug and it starts right up. I have a 240 main in right now. I bought a 230 main but have not put it in yet. Also the idle thumb screw is all the way in , But it does idle fine. but it cannot not be adjusted anymore..
I'm also getting the black oily crud leaking from the exhaust coming from the cylinder, and slip on..

Help

Default LT250r Jetting question

I'm using a 210 main, 25 pilot, needle clip at the top notch, on a '88 Quadracer with a stock pipe, FMF silencer, UNI filter, no air box lid, standard bore. I had a lot of problems running rich as well, but this seems to have done the trick. It'll start up in 2 to 3 kicks without the choke and not giving it any gas. The pilot is awful lean, but it hasn't burned down yet...

Good luck

What does happen if the pilot is too lean???????
Did this also cure the ugly drool crud that comes out to of the exhaust????
This will be a great startig point for me...
Is it safe to assume we are close in sea level ranges?? I live in Ohio...

Yeh, this took care of the black crude. The Quad also shook like crazy and abviously ran terrible.
I think if you have a lean pilot and let the Quad idle for a long time, it could lock up, so you need to be carefull.

I'm in Minnesota BTW

Lean it out, but just be careful

You should have four bolts through the swingarm that need to be loosened, then you can use the two in the back to tighten the chain...mine are actually stripped out...just there for looks...I tighten the chain by pulling back.

If you still have problems with tuning the carb it could be something else like a bad stator. Does yours backfire when you try to start it? Or it could be a sheared woodruff key.

That's good. Just try a smaller pilot jet, maybe a 30??? I think 31.5 is stock, don't quote me but it's around there. I was afraid to use a 25, I did it as a last resort, and so far so good.
Your right, these things are fast!!! Plus, don't ya love the sound and smell of it?

Again, good luck
