i have an 04 vinson 500 and it will only start with the choke on and i need to leave it on to get moving then i shut it off but when i am riding it is backfiring when i let off the gas. I have tried adjusting the throttle and the adjustment screw!! please help!

 

I have the same machine with the same problem. I'm thinking it's going to have to go into the shop to have the carb cleaned out.

 

i am gonna try some carb cleaner additive and hope that solves it. I dont know what else to do

 

The additive won't do much but is worth a try. Race gas helps some. Disconnect the intake and take some carb cleaner to the opening. Change the plug and see what happens.

 

sounds like you need to take carb off and clean the pilot jet out.unless this bike is fuel injected then I dont know what to do.If not fuel injected then the carb should have two jets.clean both of them

 

I tried some Gumout and that didn't work.

 

I would start by removing the jets and cleaning them,

 

WOW! I took my 04 Vinson into the local shop and they cleaned out the carb and turned it up a notch. This thing didn't run this good out of the box! No more choke start, it purrs like a kitten now. Do yourself a favor and take it in (unless you're savy enough to do it yourself) and have it cleaned. They mechanic said they all come out of the factory set really low so it took it up a notch...what a difference! FYI -- if cost me $130 for the service.

 

i will call and set that up. I hope it works. I got it to idle but it still backfires when i come off the throttle .
