What's your opinion, 26" or 27" tires?

I have a LTF500 4x4 primarily for farm use. Actually it see's little mud that the stock tires haven't had too many problems with to date (sad, huh?) and some snow.

I'm debating between the 27" Titan 589's or the 26" 589's. I'm picking them because it looks like they will offer a smoother ride than most other mud tires. I've added the Supertrapp IDS2 (boy that sound good now) and a lift kit. HP or clearance shouldn't be a problem either way. I don't get into some of the swampy, deep mud that some of you see on your 4x4's. I'd just like your opinions to help shape mine.

BTW, a year ago I found several site's that catered to the 500 but have lost the addresses. I tried to search via Yahoo, but didn't find any of them. Can you help me there too?

Thanks in advance.

If your gonna bother with getting more tires, I'd get the 27's. You wouldn't have any problem turning them. GO BIG!

ktk, if you decide to get larger tires, do you also intend to change the speedo gear or does that not matter to you?

KTK,
Go with the 27" tires. It makes the bike look better, and work better. They will fill up the wheel wells and look good. You'll have no problem at all turning them. I'm not familiar with the 589's, but from what I have heard, they are a good tire. I have blackwater XT's. Good all around trail tire. 6ply construction, have never had a hole. I'm going to Vampires next simply for the fact I ride a lot of swampy areas and thick mud. Like Chuck said, your speedo will be off some. You'll actually ge going faster than what it says. I left mine alone. Speed doesn't really matter to me.

I haven't even thought about the difference it will make in the odometer. I'll be doing some spraying on the farm and will need an accurate speed to apply the right amount of chemical. Do you know what is required to make the speed correct? Cost?

The only reason I considered the 26" is because in Rocky Mountain ATV's catalogue, they are $86 cheaper for a set of 4 vs the 27". Like I said earlier, I don't actually need the extra height/clearance that the 27"'s will give.

I was going to put them on my stock wheels, but maybe I should consider buying the tire/wheel combo and just put the 589's on when I want to play in the mud or snow and save on the wear. I guess either way doesn't matter, they're a tax deduction for the farm.

Dave00's right also, Ktk. I don't know all the parts you will need but I'm sure the quad dealer can instruct you on what to purchase should you decide to go to a different size tire. If you have 27" tires (original) I would stay with them but then I don't know what you want to use the quad for other than the farm duty. Good luck.
