Default 1985 lt250r crank problem

my 85 lt250r ran good and fast, never had a problem, then it lost compression, pulled it aprt to replace the piston and i notice there is alot of side to side play in the crank rod, there is no play up and down,it is about a 4mm gap in the on the side of the crank rod,i was told if i were to put the piston in and run it that it will run fine, just shorten the life of the piston,i really dont want the split the cases ant change the crank, just looking for some ideas, also let me know if anyone has a spare bottomend they would be willing to sell

I think again I think you are only supposed to have 2mm.

in the 89-92 manual play should be no more than 3.0 mm. you measure this by holding the big bottom end of the crank steady and measure the play at the top of the rod and it should be 3mm but thats for a 88-92 which has longer stroke than the 85. thats all the manual said about it. couldn't find the manual for your year. i really don't know what you should do here, yes it will run fine, maybe wear the rings and cylinder faster, but if your bottom end bearing fails how bad will it fail and how much damage is it going to do? that i don't know and i dont even know if its within tolerance or not. take it to a shop and ask them. i'm lucky theres a shop around here who knows everything about the LTs in and out. good luck
