Default 2000 KING QUAD 300

I started my quad up threw it in gear and went just fine, then noticed the gears not catching. So I checked the oil in the rear differential?(oil plug near rear axal).
Anyway I opened the plug and it started gushing out a liquid that smelled like gas but had a oil color, I guess it is a mixture. I do not know what is wrong with it. I do not want to drive it like that as I am afraid it will ruin it. Any suggestions on the problem.
Thanks all.

The KQ 300 uses the same oil in the engine and tranny so whatever could contaminate the oil in the engine is also affecting the oil in the tranny. On that bike, there is no 'off' setting on the gas, so if it's been stored for a while you may have some gas leaching past the rings and into the lower end. Not sure what would have to go wrong to cause that condition (stuck float maybe) but that could explain the gas smell in the oil. Also if it gushed out then something caused it to get over full.

At the very least, you're due for an oil change - you'll need to do that anyway to see if this is a continous problem.

Thanks, I did a regular oil/plug change and waiting for results. I also would like to know a few basics about this quad such as is their transmission fluid running in it? I can't seem to find any place it would go, I do not have a owners manual for this machine(it sure would be nice if I had it) so finding specs is a pain. Anyone know if the radiator is for trany fluid or colling?
thanks a bunch

When I said that the engine and tranny use the same oil I meant not only is the type of oil the same - but that it is exactly the same oil. In the KQ 300, the tranny and engine are joined and thus, share the same oil. There is only one fluid fill - that oil fill behind the rear axle on the right side back. Fill that and you have oil in both the tranny and the engine. If you want to check your oil, look just in front of the right rear wheel - you'll see a small glass window that's about 3/4" in diameter. Once you clean it off you can see the oil level - it should be abouve 3/4 full.

The 'radiator' is an oil cooler. The rest of the engine is air cooled. Some have added a fan behind the oil cooler as the KQ can overheat with slow speed running on hot days.

Thanks again, I needed to know the info on the oil because it sometimes does not catch in 4wd low or 4wd dif lock, it just sounds like it is spinning both 2Hi & 4Hi work. Does anyone have advice for this situation.

I think I'd check out the linkages from the 4wd levers.
