Hey,

I just joined the forums, figured I'd check in and say hi (and ask some questions). I picked up a 2003 Eiger 400 Automatic 4WD today and I have to say this thing is awesome. Iv never owned a quad but have always wanted to, and just from the hour or two of riding today I know I made the right choice buying it. I think I got a pretty good deal too, payed $2500 for the quad with a Warn winch. It only has 250 miles on it, not much for this machine I think.

The one thing it didnt have was the owners manual. Does anyone know if I can download one somewhere online? Or maybe you know the fluid capacities and what type of oil is recommended? Also does anyone know if they make nerf bars for around the fenders? (I'm afraid I might break the plactic if I get wedged on a tree or something). Here's a pic of the machine:

Thanks!
John

Welcome to the forums. That's a good deal for a low milage bike with a winch. The Eiger is a good all around bike, you'll be happy with it.

Here's some stats form the book:

Fuel - 4.0 gallons
Oil - 3.4 qts (I've always noticed it being closer to 4 qt.) Below 5 degreesuse 5W-30 oil. Normal is 10W-30 with 10W-40 in hot temperatures
Dif Gear oil - 10.1 oz.
Gear oil 8.5 to 11.8 oz. SAE90 with a GL-5 rating

Great buy! Be sure you get the oil that does not contain the friction reducing agents. As for the vin it should be stamped on the frame at the rear of the quad.

You're referring to gear oil that is safe for limited slip diffs?

VIN IS STAMPED ON FRAME ON LEFT REAR. LOOK JUST FWD OR INBOARD OF LEFT REAR TIRE ON FRAME.

Thanks for the info. I changed the oil/filter/spark plug this weekend and then beat the crap out of it on the trails. I could not believe it when I rode through water that was over the wheels!

One more dump question: What tire pressure do you guys generally ride with? Thanks.

Run 3 PSI of air in tires. Anymore is too much, IMHO.

the oil he meant for you to use motorcycle oil or ATV oil. It doesn't have the same friction modifiers that automotive motor oil has. I'd use 10W40, any motorcylce or atv oil. the auto type of oil can apparently cause wet clutch slippage.

for the fenders, you can buy metal bars designed for foot rests for a rear passenger. that will protect your rear plastic quite well. as for front plastic, not sure if you can buy "overfenders" for that quad or not. Hondas come with overfenders. I know i added them to my Yamaha as they were a factory option. Maybe babbits online will have them. they have good pricing for Suzuki OEM parts. ALSO, careful in the really cold weather as the plastic fenders shatter much easier in cold.

Yeah I found out about shattering in the cold that hard way. Oh well. I just changed the oil yesterday and put in automotive oil, guess I will dump that fill and put in ATV oil. Oh well.
