Removing a difficult Swingarm Pivot Bolt
#1
Recently I had to remove the Swingarm Pivot Bolt on my 89 LT250R. I removed the nut on the left side and thought I could push it out -Wrong!!! After a can of Liquid Wrench and beating the bejevers out of the bolt with a 5 LB sludge I found it wouldn't budge. After a week or so trying the same think and not having any luck - I was about ready to cut it with a saws-all. Lucky for me, before pulling out the trusty tool, I mentioned my delema to a freind. He said the problem was that I didn't have it solidly supported on the right (Bolt Head) side. He explained that when I beat the bolt, without supporting the other side, the frame would act as a spring and prevent the bolt from braking loose from the seized bushings. That made sense to me So I stacked a couple concret pier blocks and flipped the quad on it's right side. I then put a large socket (1 1/2") over the pivot bolt head so the edge of the socket rested on the frame. The other side of the socket was firmly on the top pier block. With a couple taps on the other side of the bolt ! Yeh Haw! it started to move. I was amazed at how much difference the support made.
I hope this may be helpful for anyone else in this situation.
