I have an 86 lt250r that im in the middle of ripping down. The frame was once cracked where the shocks bolt onto the frame at,(the usual place). My question is, what is a good way to reinforce that area so it wont likely crack again? And is there any other places on these frames that should be rinforced so they dont crack. Any info would be helpfule. Thanks

one of my buddies had angle iron welded on the top of the frame above the shock mounts, the tube being inside the V of the angle iron... he ran it above & below the mount a couple inches, plus re-welded the tubes.

there also a number of spots the factory reinforced in the front section of the frame in later years... i'll look at them & get back to ya.

Mine cracked on the left side down tube, right where the footpeg bolts to the frame. I haven't found any new signs of cracking, but it doesn't hurt to check after a ride.

I used 1/4" flatbar and cut it out to fit underneath the front shock mounts centered on the frame and welded it in place and that solved the problem. I also welded a peice of angle iron underneath the footpegg to keep them from bending down and cracking the frame in that area. Hope you get yours fixed up. It's actually pretty easy to do.

where the factory added additional gussets in '91-'92 in the front:
-on top of the tube at the shock mount, in front & rear of it.
-in front of & behind the verticle tube at the back of the A-arms, to the bottom frame tube.
-on top & bottom of the upper A-arm mount tube at the point it attaches to the previous verticle tube.

i assume they added gussets to these areas for a reason.... but then again, i could be wrong.
they are small enough that the pipe can clear on the left side.
i don't know for sure if they reinforced the footpeg area at all, haven't had time to caompare w/ my friends' in that area. i would assume they changed it some since they did make significant changes to the rear suspension in '91.

I have an 85 250 and it cracked on the right side behind the footpeg. I had it welded and it broke about 8 months later. It is in a tight spot and I have not come up with a way to strengthen it yet.
